Interpret Without Delays with Study Preloading in Eden
As part of the viewer optimization and improved radiologist experience, we have implemented a study preloading tool. This feature allows studies to be selected directly from the Worklist for early download to the local server or viewer cache, achieving speeds up to 100 times faster and reducing opening times during reading.
What it is
A feature that enables proactive downloading of one or several studies from the Worklist without needing to open them immediately. This way, when the radiologist accesses the study, the images are already available locally, minimizing load latency, especially over remote connections or with complex studies (MRI, multi-series CT).

- Reduces waiting times during reading.
- Optimizes the radiologist's session by preparing upcoming cases.
- Increases productivity on high-volume days.
- Facilitates the reading of heavy modalities, such as MRIs, mammograms, or multiphase studies.
Impact on workflow
Previously, each study was downloaded upon opening, causing delays. Now, the radiologist or technologist can preselect the studies to be read in the next session, ensuring instant availability when needed.
It is especially useful in hybrid environments (cloud + local) or in teleradiology, where download speed directly affects efficiency.
Changes to your PACS
- The Worklist preloads automatically upon logging into Eden PACS.
- New column to preload or remove the preload of all studies simultaneously.
- Option to manually select and preload studies in the Worklist, study lists, or custom lists.
- Visual indicators of download status:
- Gray: Not preloaded.
- Blue: In progress.
- Green: Preloaded.
- The cache is managed automatically, freeing up space after studies are signed off or after a 24-hour period. The download will also be removed if the user logs out of their Eden account.
Implications for the user
Preloading offers a smoother experience, eliminating dead time and allowing the radiologist to focus on interpretation.
Important: Preloading is local to a single device; if you switch workstations, studies will need to be preloaded again. It does not alter study content, only makes it available earlier.

- Heavy studies or those with multiple series.
- Case lists for batch reading (e.g., shift planning).
- Scenarios with limited connectivity, where every second impacts productivity.
